Jack thank you for posting this. Have you seen the complete footage on this? He has been named Sam, Sam drank 3 bottles of water from the firey… I will send you the link to his recovery with his feet bandaged.
That is simply disturbing. I am speechless and dumbfounded. How could someone do such a thing?

You might be pleased to hear – follow up- on A Current Affair tonight – film showed her recovering.. and re meeting with her rescuer..
Wild life carer said “She is lovely – very docile – and she has already got an admirer. A male koala keeps putting his arms around her,” Ms Shaw was quoted as saying. “It will be a long road to recovery, but she should be able to be released back into the wild in about five months.”
Just a clarification, not all the fires were deliberately lit. Last Saturday we had temperatures of 46 degrees celsius (114 fahrenheit) with strong northerly winds.
I like the site. I live near the fire zones in Melbourne and have friends who have lost everything. Fires are still burning. Bushfires are a natural occurrence in Australia [some seeds only germinate after the extreme heat of a bushfire] but about half of all bushfires are lit by arsonists here. Have to correct you; not all the blazes were caused by arsonists. The heat was extreme on Saturday, 47 or 120 fahrenheit;70 mph winds, some powerlines melted and started fires for example, others; lightning strikes etc., but the fact remains people have committed mass murder and terror here against humans and the environment. Thanks for caring.
Wow… I’m going to have to show this picture to my daughter. She would love this. Erika loves animals, and volunteers at our Runge Nature Center in Jefferson City. She would totally be one to help out in a situation like this. Wow.
Great of you to post this Jack and raise awareness. So many have suffered through the bushfires. My home state is so dry and this was just waiting to happen. We’ve had drought now for 11 years… any wonder the fires were so ferocious.
I find it humbling that there is not only nationwide offers of support, but also some from overseas.
Thanks, Ange
I have cried for 20 minutes watching this video. Bless this poor creature’s heart. God bless all the animals.
Please be responsible in what you report. We know that some of the fires MAY have been started by arsonists. But these would only account for one or two of the fires. This catastrophe was not caused by arsonists, it was caused by the extreme weather conditions that we deal with in Australia every Summer.
Sam is doing much better now. Apparently she wouldn’t have survived if she hadn’t been given all of that water. It was just good to see something positive come out of the ashes.
Just like to point out that not all the bushfires experienced were due to arson.
The south east of Australia experiences destructive bushfires every summer – it comes from living in a hot climate with extremely flamable forestation and fire is the bush’s way to clean out the old and regenerate. Most of the time human homes and lives are saved by brilliant firefighters but often very little can be done for the wildlife in the direct path of the fires. Unlike humans they don’t have much of a way to get to safety and are left dead or injured, homeless or without food and water.
We need to do more for them now than we would have decades ago because human habitation of their natural environments is driving their population levels lower and are thus more heavily affected by fires than in the past. Thanks for calling attention to this.

Thanks for calling attention to this, it’s easy to forget when so many people are displaced or dead as well.
